NIGHT OF 1000 PLAYS 1998

A One-Minute Performance Festival

Part 2 - January 16, 17, 18

The first ever One-Minute Performance Festival was a logistical challenge: 58 plays/performances were divided into two weekends, which meant that 29 pieces and 30 actors had to go on and off in only 2 hours each night. The actors were divided into groups: each group had one director, who was assigned several pieces. Many participants did double-duty; playwrights and directors acted, and several actors had their playwriting debuts in the Festival. Actors, playwrights and directors also worked production and technical crew.

Thanks to word of mouth and notices in The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Weekly, the Festival sold out almost every night. Thirty people had to be turned away on the second night of the Festival. The City Paper sent a photographer backstage on the third night to capture the essence of original live theatre in Philadelphia.

Thanks to all participating actors, directors, production staff and Brick members, The Night of 1000 Plays One-Minute Performance Festival is the most successful Brick production to date.
